Description: 

Would you like your students to be more like a detective seeking the truth by following the facts or more like a detective who assumes things without evidence?  Would you like your students to do more than put their eyes on words while reading?  Please come to this session if the answer to any of these questions is “yes”.  If you have readers who may not naturally think while reading, this session is for you. With the focus on citing evidence from text and inferencing, we will explore a set of strategies and activities to help your readers develop these skills.

Learning Intentions:

  • Identify the elements of teaching citing text from evidence and inference.
  • Explore different supports available to help the readers in your classroom.
  • Cultivate activities to provide student practice in the areas of inference and evidence.
  • Consider ways to motivate and inspire students toward application of skills.
  • Discuss ways to support ESE students.

Benefits:

  • Eligible teachers may receive $25.00 an hour for attendance plus in-service points.
  • Additional certification points, including ESE points, can be earned through a follow-up assignment.
  • Ongoing support for implementation through com is available for site-licensed schools.
  • Earn Reading in-service points.
