Description:

Did you ever wish that your class would respond to the fraction lessons with something other than a series of groans and the looks of a deer caught in headlights?  Fractured Math is designed to help your students better understand and possibly even learn to enjoy fractions! We will explore different activities, strategies and approaches to help your students move from an adversarial relationship with fractions to a healthy and productive relationship with fractions.  With real-life applications and higher-order thinking in the mix, teachers should be wholly pleased with the results.   

Learning Intentions 

  • Examine the common misconceptions hindering student understanding. 
  • Explore strategies and approaches to foster fractional number sense. 
  • Discover activities to enhance student understanding.
  • Create a plan to incorporate higher-order questions and real-life applications to the fraction lessons currently taught. 

Benefits:  

  • Eligible teachers may receive $25.00 an hour for attendance plus in-service points. 
  • Additional certification points including ESE points can be earned through a follow-up assignment. 
  • Ongoing support for implementation through ConnectedClass.com is available for site licensed schools.
